Invasive species: food or foe?
2 thoughts on “Invasive species: food or foe?”
I think the discussion on invasives as food is interesting, i.e promotion vs prevention. We have had similar debates here on green crabs, smallmouth bass, etc. For example: we allowed an “Anglers Helping the Hungry” event which donated fresh fish filets to Feed Nova Scotia from an invasive population of smallmouth bass but the event was riddled with controvercy and polarized viewpoints. Along similar lines we also debate the positives and negatives on promoting recreational angling for invasives as some believe it encourages their illegal spread. Some also argue promotion for food would also encourage their spread. I hope we can continue the discussion at the next meeting.

Not the biggest green crab news but perhaps a kick-off to the “Invasive species: food or foe?” forum discussion.
